Our 2025 production, Eden, is in search of performing artists. There are four cast roles and one understudy role. Please read details below:
Update May 2025 While our main cast is almost fully confirmed, we are still looking for understudies and for a male dancer. Please submit your materials below!
The following five dance company roles are open to casting:
Alpha, an Adam-like figure, first human. Alpha is possessive, insecure, and violent. This is a traditionally masculine role.*
Omega, and Eve-like figure, first human. Omega is inquisitive, loving, and free. This is a traditionally feminine role.*
Beast of Eden 1
Beast of Eden 2
Understudy
*Please do not be discouraged from auditioning for these roles in relation to your identity. You may just be exactly what Eden needs, and we are happy to affirm your identity and work with you!
Role and commitment
Dancers will participate in rehearsals in the Rochester, NY, area in August 2025. Local performances will begin in mid-August and last until late-September 2025.
Additional involvement
If dancers wish, they can
lead open company workshops that precede performances
remain in the company for subsequent seasons
take on a governing role in the company (serve simultaneously as dancer and as a board member).
Compensation
Ticket and merchandise sales will directly influence what we can pay our dancers. Please understand that the positions listed above are not intended to be full-time or part-time employment. Our performance season is short so that it allows for dancers to be pursuing school and employment. Our current intention, depending on grant funding and other factors, is for dancers to make at least $400 over the season (for 2-3 performances). If the production is profitable, additional dates may be added with respect to the dancers’ availability, and with additional compensation.
As this is our inaugural season, our compensation is not as competitive as it could be. Dancers offered a role will enjoy transparent access to our finances in the spirit of respect and clarity. In subsequent seasons we hope to compensate more, so that our company is accessible for more dancers.
International recruitment
We are not able to sponsor or initiate visas for non-US citizens at this time, and sadly also can’t pay non-US citizens the above listed figure. We are honored by auditions from around the world, but want to reiterate that at our current capacity cannot welcome international candidates to our company, unless they have the right to be and/or work in the United States. *If you need a visa to enter the United States, and you do not already have this visa, you are ineligible to audition.*
Casting
Our casting process differs from most dance companies. We believe that every person can dance and we wish to step away from the industry standards of stressful and hurried audition processes.
The audition process can be completed remotely with submission of a movement sample.
In the form on the side, please share with us
general contact information, as prompted
a brief description of your dance background
which roles you are interested in
a reflection on what any one or more of these words (jealousy, revenge, flirting) mean to you, in a short improvised movement experiment of 1 minute.
Selected auditions will be invited for an interview with the choreographer, who will then extend offers.
Audition materials will be considered until all positions are filled.
